Tussen 1992 en 2000 werkte Marleen Swenne bij de Hiv Vereniging Nederland op het secretariaat en als redacteur van het verenigingsblad Hivnieuws. Gedurende die jaren interviewde zij voor ieder nummer van Hivnieuws iemand die hiv-positief was. Stuk voor stuk praatten de geïnterviewden bijzonder openhartig over hun leven met hiv. In de loop van de tijd veranderde er veel in de behandeling van hiv. In 1992 ging iemand die hiv had nog vrijwel zeker binnen aanzienlijke tijd dood aan de gevolgen ervan; in 1999 waren er hiv-remmers en konden de meeste hiv-positieven weer voorzichtig toekomstplannen maken. Op het secretariaat van de Hiv Vereniging werkte Marleen Swenne samen met Carmen, die hiv had. Ze werden vriendinnen en toen Carmen stierf, werd Marleen de voogd van haar zoon Kevin. Een selectie uit de in Hivnieuws verschenen interviews is in dit boek chronologisch gebundeld. Tussen de interviews door wordt het verhaal verteld van Carmen, Kevin en Marleen en wordt van jaar tot jaar de stand van zaken in de aids-behandeling kort weergegeven. Dr. Kevin Murry is currently an Associate Professor of Secondary Education at Kansas State University and Director of Research and Development for the Center for Intercultural and Multilingual Advocacy (CIMA) in the College of Education. His work in research and development has focused on ESL/dual language programming in secondary public schools and teachers' accommodation readiness for CLD students whose first language is not English and for transnational students. Alsof dat nog niet genoeg is, geldt voor traditionele media als radio, tv en tijdschrift dat de keuze aanzienlijk groter is dan tien jaar geleden.In de achtste druk van Communicatiekaart van Nederland brengen we al deze ontwikkelingen in kaart.
